Escalator Safety Campaign

Escalator Safety Campaign

With health & safety being one of our three cores at D2E, it is important that it is not just the equipment that is compliant but that the passengers are aware of how to safely use it. D2E and the two intu escalator maintenance providers have been working over the summer to support intu with their escalator safety campaign at each Centre.

The campaign run by intu has been actively promoting escalator safety in their Centres during the summer school holidays. Largely aimed at children, the main aim has been to raise awareness of the dangers of escalators and to promote safe riding!

6 Escalator Safety Rules

1. Don’t take pushchairs or wheelchairs on the escalators – try to use the lifts

2. Always hold the handrail (and or a parent’s hand)

3. Face forward

4. Don’t walk or run

5. Keep your feet away from the edges and the skirting brushes (do not use them to polish your shoes!)

6. Make sure you are ready to step off the escalator at the exit

The key learning points have been supplemented by yo-yos, certifications and capes.

The campaign, which is part of D2E and intu’s corporate responsibility within the communities, has been well received, with intu's Centre Manager, Rachel Evans, thanking D2E for helping out and making the campaign such a success.
