Having been switched off now for the longest time since the Second World War, the Piccadilly Lights gear up to brighten our days from October with the charitable #piccadillyon campaign. The campaign seeks to raise donations by offering sponsorship of a unique colour pixel of your choice which can be shared (or kept) in celebration of the launch of the new screen with all money raised going to Barnardo's. At D2E, we have gone with a classic D2E green to celebrate the switch on and donate to a worthy cause.
D2E were appointed by Landsec to provide a façade access and maintenance strategy for the unique and iconic landmark. The key driver when developing the strategy was to design a system that would facilitate safe and rapid access to maintain the screen, the largest of its kind in Europe. A further challenge was to design a system that did not obstruct or compromise the sightlines from the adjacent statue of Eros. This was achieved by means of a bespoke low-profile Building Maintenance Unit (BMU).
