Piccadilly Lights to Undergo a Revamp During 2017

Piccadilly Lights to Undergo a Revamp During 2017

As a major sightseeing attraction in London and one of the most iconic advertising spaces in the world, Piccadilly Lights is well known to Londoners and tourists alike. Owned by Land Securities since 1968, the building housing both retail and advertising space, will be undergoing a major revamp that will see the advertising screens switched off the first time since 1949.

Piccadilly Lights has only been turned off for Winston Churchill’s funeral in 1965, Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997, each year for Earth Hour and during World War II. The new screens will be unveiled in autumn 2017, being able to display live video streaming, weather, traffic, sports results, finance information and real-time social media feeds.

With Piccadilly Lights being constantly under the public eye, it is essential the new state of the art screens are well maintained and can be accessed in a quick and safe manner. It is, therefore, critical that a robust façade access and maintenance system is in place. D2E are proud to be consulting on the design for the new strategy to be implemented and look forward to seeing the unveiling of the new screens in autumn 2017.
